Either way I really don't get how this game can get a free pass when it doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Heck all reviewers goes like "It doesn't does what every other mmorpg has been doing up until now, but it has teh graphicsss and teh soundz! So therefor 8 /9 of 10".
Further more the reviews never bother to give a crap about the fact that most players after only playing for 2 weeks already are doing endgame content and finishing the story of the launch game aswell as finishing up the "hard modes" that the game has to offer.
A MMORPG that can be completed in 2 weeks is rather worriesome I'd say.

eh angry joe. Though hes better then that spoony guy.
Spoony's great.
no....no hes not.
Erm, I think the point is that it didn't cave to this pathetic action-trinityless trend of failure games like Tera/NWN and (well I cant call itr a failure but still crap for PvE) guild wars 2. so yes, doesn't do anything NEW ... buit when has NEW always been better? Now whos ignorant? the game hasn't been complete by anyone yet. pretty much EVERYTHING MMO to release after WoW you can be max level in under 2 weeks. I did guild Wars 2 in 7 days with 99% map exploration. I did SWTOR in less than a week too. Difference is I'm not on those said hard modes, and they are not the end. there is Binding Coil of Bahamut which only a handful are properly doing... and it hasn't been completed. So no, graphics/sound is not why its getting higher reviews. its getting high reviews because its a solid, polished game which unlike GW2/NWN/Tera didn't strip RPG's of their damn class roles, and managed to make the bosses challenging/engaging again like Vanilla/TBC WoW days... only with FF flare. So now IGNorant matters eh?

I found Guild Wars 2 very boring compared to FF14.
FF14 is much more challenging than Guild Wars 2 and your class actually has a role to play.
Because it goes back to the whole "Holy trinity" set up. While new and more innovative mmorpgs has seen the flaws of this system and is trying to get rid of it. See Everquest Next.[QUOTE="RyviusARC"][QUOTE="dommeus"]

Guild Wars 2 created more "Flaws" than it fixed in terms of PvE and party play. only scenario it worked well was mindless PvP spam. All hyped up nonsense, why can't I be a healer I want to be? or a tank? wtf is the point in everyone being a dps with a heal or a defensive ability? to speed up queues? didn't do that in GW because their dungeons were so crap nobody wanted to do them.
Only in r*tarded modern casual mainstream gamer's minds is "Having class roles in RPGs a bad thing" ... absolutely crap logic.

That would be dandy if the "trinity formular" didn't come under fire as "outdated" and simple dumbing down class roles is praised as "innovative" face facts, its just a dumbded down version to make casuals play 10 minutes longer.I'm enjoying the game right now. Really like what they did with crafting, so much so that I'm spending more time levelling crafting classes than fighting. I like the dungeons too.
However I think a lot of people will leave the game after the free month is over. There isn't much to do after you finish the quests with your main class. When you start with another class all there is to do is farming Fate over and over again. The fact that there is no PvP either doesn't help.

FF14 is challenging? Only in trying to get over it's tedious nature. Unskippable cutscenes with poor animations and no voice overs? Is this 1995? 2.5 second global cooldown... Pfft, it's a console MMO.
I don't care for GW2, either. I'm just saying, FF14 is a casual grindfest. It's the high budget equivilent of RuneScape.
There is nothing to do after your main quest? so you have: 1) Done your fair share of Wanderer's Palace and Amadapor Keep to get darklight gear ect. 2) Defeated the 3 primals on hard mode. 3) got your job's relic weapon 4) Complete the binding coil of bahamut. 5) Binding Coil of Bahamut on farm until 2.1 where Crystal Tower is released? I dunno, seems to be plenty there to do.I'm enjoying the game right now. Really like what they did with crafting, so much so that I'm spending more time levelling crafting classes than fighting. You're just mad it wasn't your usual grind fest MMO.... They actually designed GW2 to be playable and people that enjoy the game could make it to late game with multiple classes without having to spend half their life's into grinding a single dungeon for weeks to get a single game end item. Like the person said.. there's more than not MMO's with your preference.. there's nothing special of what you ask... it's just the most common thing you can find w/o even trying..... so you having on one of the few games that don't do it just makes you seem quite silly.. especially trying so hard... i mean.. you think everyone else is dumb not to know how genetic mmo's are in general and buy into your 600 hours of grind fest to reach the samething you would in every single mmo out there with just longer time ?

Mad? you can do what you describe in any modern mmo. guild wars 2 was nothing but grind to max level, all they did was alter how the grind initiates, e.g instead of quest givers they fed you fetch quests and kill quests by simply walking into the area... its the same thing. event grinding. ect ect. Guild Wars 2's leveling was NOT at its core any different. Only difference was nothing was there for when you hit the end. worse a.i than trinity games, less challenging, only way they could design bosses was one shot mechanics. alot of the event's were just 100s whacking an enemy that couldn't even hit for half your health ect. So no... don't tell me GW2 wasn't a "grind fest" the difference between GW2 and other MMO's is other MMO's "grind fest" as you put it was there for a challenge. how is farming your legendary challenging? or buying exotic best in slot gear from the AH for 2 damn gold "challenging." GW2 leveling was a lot easier than other mmo's.... they're not really challenging.... they just push the idea of having to upgrade your items to maximun to fill in extra gameplay hours.... i myself welcome the Idea of mmo's allowing the players to have an accessible end game content in a way that you don't have to dedicate your life to reach or feel like you wasted your life for not being able to reach it. It did have grind.. but the over all game wasn't a Grind fest like almost every single one of MMORPG's where oyu have to spend at least a week playing to get the gear to play the next part... and probably like a month of grinding after reaching max level to get the gear to do the end game content.. ther'es no need for that.. just give it to people and if they want they move on the next MMO and do it all over again for the rest of their lives or until they're 30.. or just have the normal minded people be satisfied with their mmo urge and not feel like playing another mmo for a year or 2 after they had that end game fill.

confirmed, level 10? why did i ask? because you KNOW that you got nowhere to warrant your claims of difficulty.. poor animations ridiculous. Ya, you're full of shit Whatever you say. I've been playing MMOs for over a decade, and FF14 isn't worth the effort. I was a pretty huge Final Fantasy fan before the PS2 came along, and was hoping ARR would revitalize some of my love for an otherwise stagnant series... Nope. It's a mediocre MMO that's only getting above average review scores because FF14 was a total disaster. Also, the game is ugly as hell.

Really? To me this is one good looking MMO. Great armor and area design. Saying it is ugly as hell is a bit of a stretch.
I hate how zones are separated with loading screens so much though. WoW fixed that 7 years ago yet these modern games both GW2 and this still use loading screens?

Marauder level 31, Gladiator level 12. Wanted to be a Warrior (I've almost always played tanks in other MMOs), but I never got so far as to unlock the class. I know I'm close, and maybe I'll try it eventually, but meh...
The cutscenes animations are laughable. It's like they're just pressing one of the emotes from the menu to match vaguely with the poorly written dialog. After a few hours, I just stopped paying attention - after all, whens the last time a FF game had a decent story? 12/13 years ago?
How can anyone praise FF14s visuals? I'm a PC player, so I'm not even talking about the console version. I didn't think a huge amount of GW2s gameplay, but from a visual point of view, that game absolutely trounces FF14, in both design and visual quality. Hell, even WoW is still more asthetically pleasing than the bland colour pallet of FF14 (minus the flashy JRPG animations, of course).
